Our Plastic Surgeons:

Because we educate mostly breast surgery, liposuction and tummy tuck patients; we require our plastic surgeons to be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which qualifies the surgeon to perform both body and facial procedures. By choosing an American Board of Plastic Surgery certified plastic surgeon; patients are ensured the surgeon has graduated from an accredited medical school and completed at least five years of residency (usually three years of general surgery and two years of plastic surgery). An ABPS certified plastic surgeon must also practice for two years and pass written and oral examinations in plastic surgery.

There are over 5000 ABPS certified plastic surgeons, and of them only a small percentage are invited to join our plastic surgeon directory. I have personally checked the qualifications of our member surgeons. In fact, our plastic surgeons meet higher standards than those of any other referral service as we only list select plastic surgeons to be in our surgeon directory. Our plastic surgeons must also maintain that standard in order to remain in our surgeon directory.

About Cosmetic Surgeons:
Some refer to plastic surgeons as cosmetic surgeons; however, a plastic surgeon is what you really want. Most doctors calling themselves "cosmetic surgeons" are not American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) certified plastic surgeons. When considering any plastic surgery procedure of the body, such as lipo, tummy tucks and breast surgery, you can be sure your doctor is qualified, trained and experienced in plastic surgery by looking for a plastic surgeon that is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). "Dr. Engler is a great plastic surgeon as he is a human being. I was very resourceful when it came to finding the right surgeon to perform my breast augmentation, and at one point I even made four consultation appointments for one day! Many of the surgeons were eager to advertise themselves by constantly calling me back or trying to give me a bargain. But Dr. Engler was very professional and I knew he was the right choice, because in addition to having extensive experience and an outstanding resume, he was warm, informative and very attentive to my questions/concerns. Dr. Engler placed me in a wheelchair and wheeled me outside and helped me get in the car. My friend, who was there to support me, was surprised to see just how far Dr. Engler would go out of his way to make sure that his patients are well taken care of, even beyond his office. In fact, she told me she was shocked to witness the doctor himself assist me outside of the operating room when he could have sent any of his staff to help me out. It s just something you don t see everyday, and it speaks volumes about Dr. Engler s character. It didn't end there. Dr. Engler also called daily via his cell phone to make sure that I was healing properly, especially since I had drains attached because I had more bleeding than the norm. After a few days while contemplating taking the drains out, Dr. Engler even suggested that it might be a good idea to leave them on until the weekend, which meant that he would have to come in on his day off just so that he could facilitate the healing process! I have never been under the care of a doctor who extends himself this far enough to make his patient completely at ease before, during and after surgery. I also have to mention how warm and comforting the staff is; they are kind and personable so you always feel welcomed.

Meet New York, NY Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Engler

Alan M. Engler, M.D., is a board-certified plastic surgeon (The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc.). He was listed in 'The Best New York Metro Area Doctors' (Castle, Connolly Medical Ltd.), and in New York Magazine's The Best Doctors in New York. He is the author of three books, "BodySculpture - Plastic Surgery of the Body for Men and Women," the #1 book for plastic surgery, "Restylane - The Definitive Guide to the Miraculous New Antiwrinkle Treament", and "The Slim Book of Liposuction". A graduate of Yale University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University (New York), he did his General Surgery and Plastic Surgery training at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), the Lipoplasty Society of North America (LSNA) and the New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (NYRSPRS). He is an investigator for the silicone gel breast implant studies currently under way.

Dr. Engler was recently named one of the 18 "Most Famous Aesthetic Surgeons in the World" in Aesthetic Surgery by Taschen Books (Angelika Taschen, editor). He also holds a patent for a surgical instrument he designed (available from ASSI, Westbury, New York). 

The office, which is located at 122 East 64th Street (between Park and Lexington Avenues) in New York City, contains a fully equipped surgical facility that is accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF). Most procedures are performed here, under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Some procedures (such as breast reductions) are routinely performed in a hospital. Any procedure, however, can be performed in a hospital, according to the patient's and/or the surgeon's preferences. Dr. Engler has admitting and operating privileges at several Manhattan hospitals (Beth Israel Medical Center and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary) as well as in some suburban communities. Dr. Engler's operating privileges at these hospitals include all of the surgical procedures that are performed in the office.
